Shore power supply, also known as shore-use variable frequency power supply or electronic static shore power supply, is a high-power variable frequency power equipment specially designed and manufactured for harsh operating environments such as ships and shore terminals, which are characterized by high temperature, high humidity, high corrosivity, and large load impact. All PCB circuit boards undergo coating curing treatment; sine filters and output transformers are treated with overall vacuum impregnation insulation paint and sprayed with high-temperature protective paint, providing high insulation levels and protective capabilities; they fully comply with the marine product certification standards of the China Classification Society (CCS). They are widely used in ships, shipbuilding and repair factories, offshore drilling platforms, shore terminals, and other places where 50Hz industrial power needs to be converted into 60Hz high-quality stable frequency and voltage power supply to supply power to marine electrical equipment.

The generation and application background of shore power supply: Since the reform and opening up, China's shipbuilding industry has developed rapidly, and currently, China has become a major shipbuilding country in the world. More and more countries and regions (see attached table:) are ordering various ships that meet their standards and frequency and voltage requirements from China's shipyards, as well as repairing various ships. During ship repair and construction, a large number of on-board equipment requires 60 Hz power supply for normal operation. Since the standard frequency of power supply in China's power grid is 50 Hz, before the on-board generators are put into normal use, these equipment requiring 60 Hz power supply cannot work properly when connected to China's power grid.

The traditional power supply method for the shipbuilding and repair industry in the past was driven by a three-phase 380V/50Hz motor (synchronous or asynchronous) driving a 440V/60Hz generator to supply power to ships. This method had many drawbacks, including high noise levels, low efficiency, high failure rates, inconvenient maintenance, the need for dedicated management, poor dynamic characteristics of output voltage during sudden heavy loads, unstable frequency, and so on. As a professional power supply equipment for the shipbuilding and repair industry - marine static shore power supply - emerged as the times required, due to its ability to convert 50Hz power into 60Hz power, higher cost-effectiveness, and the ability to provide shore power to ships of different systems; compared to generators, it saves more than 20% energy, and eliminates many inconveniences brought by generators, such as high noise levels, high operating costs, large losses, pollution, difficult maintenance, and the need for dedicated management; functionally, it has stronger applicability, can monitor the operation of the power supply in real time, and is widely used by major shipbuilding and repair enterprises in China

The shore power supply has higher standards than ordinary variable frequency power supplies. The core inverter module group is mainly composed of interconnected components such as IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors), switching power supplies, heat sinks, electrolytic capacitors, snubber capacitors, drive boards, copper plates, etc. This module group adopts IGBT inverter technology, featuring high reliability, small size, significant material savings in manufacturing, light weight, and easy mobility. It automatically matches optimal technical parameters, reducing wiring inductance. This enhances the reliability of the system, and also makes the capacitor distribution more uniform, with a more compact, simple, and aesthetically pleasing structure.

According to the report in the Journal of Shanghai Maritime University, Vol. 03, 2006, relevant national departments conducted research and investigation on the implementation of shore power technology in Shanghai port areas and at berthing ships, and analyzed and calculated the main technical issues related to the use of shore power by ships. The results showed that when ships use shore power, the power system of the shore power should be as consistent as possible with that of the ship's power system; the key to implementing shore power technology for ships is to carry out technical renovation of the port terminals for shore power, and the main power transmission mode for ships should be low-voltage power supply; after ships in Shanghai port areas use shore power, the emission of pollutants from ships has been reduced by more than 92%, indicating the necessity of using shore power for ships.
